JOIN RCK AT CD SIGNING AT THE WATERFRONT BLUES FES

June 25, 2007

Immediately following their 4:30PM performance at the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival on July 6th, Music Millenium is hosting a CD signing for Rose City Kings at its on-site booth near the North Stage. Don't miss this opportunity to pick-up one of RCK's three hit albums and chill with the band one-on-one. In addition, Kolvane's new album, They Called Me Evil, will be available for the first time for purchase at the Music Millennium booth. The album is also available for pre-order through this website by simply clicking through the links at the Store.

As reported earlier this week:

In October of 2006, Kolvane, founder and leader of Portland, Oregon’s Rose City Kings, was requested to be the vocalist, guitarist and songwriter for a DVD project called “Secrets of the Pros.” Kolvane was joined in the studio by some of the finest musicians in the world. They Called Me Evil was produced by Hershel Yatovitz, lead guitarist for Chris Isaak, and recorded and filmed at The Plant Studios in Sausalito California. The Musicians on "They Called Me Evil":

Kolvane: lead vocals, guitar
Dennis Chambers (Parliament and Funkadelic, Santana), drums
Benny Rietveld (Miles Davis, Santana), bass Rafael Padilla (Gloria Estefan, Whitney Houston, Joe Cocker), percussion
Linda Hornbuckle, background vocals
Steve Kerin, keyboards

Quotes:

“Producing They Called Me Evil with Kolvane was one of those rare experiences where the artist has a vision which includes body, soul and meaning. He also has a surplus of talent and skill. This makes the production and recording process one of simply unwrapping the gem, rather than having to search for one.”

- Herschel Yatovitz, lead guitarist for Chris Isaak

"They Called Me Evil" has a sound that is fresh and powerful. The bass and drums are anchored into a groove that is infectious while the guitar tastefully glides over the top. It's the vocals however, that takes this song to the higher dimension and drives it right into your soul. "They Called Me Evil" is a song you will want to hear over and over again.

- Terry Currier, Owner Music Millennium, oldest record store in existence in the Pacific Northwest.

About Kolvane and the single:

They Called Me Evil is about a man who spends his nights sitting on a tombstone. Although simply practicing his religious faith based on African crossroads traditions, he is alienated and feared by people in the community. The bonus track, Reckless Sinner, is a solo performance from the same recording session. Reckless Sinner deals with a man’s search for redemption in a world that has labeled him a sinner.

Kolvane is a lifetime musician/artist who founded Portland’s Rose City Kings in 2002. In 4 short years, Kolvane moved the band from obscurity to notoriety: Releasing three critically acclaimed albums; touring with Chicago Blues legend Jody Williams as his personal band; breaking into the Top 50 Roots Music Report in the Roots Blues category and continuing as the highest ranked self-released album on the RootsMusicReport.com chart for several weeks; Real Blues Magazine hailed RCK as the Best West Coast Blues~Rock band for its sophomore release, Up On It; annual appearances since 2003 at the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival; several months on the RadioWave Monitor Top Blues chart. The band was voted “Best New Act 2003” by the Cascade Blues Association following its debut album, Delta Hop, and competed in the 2005 International Blues Challenge.
