RCK Set to Play at BB KINGS
February 03, 2005
Rose City Kings has made it to Memphis! Their first stop was Graceland, where they ended up with an impromptu on-air interview with Doc Watson on Sirius Satellite Radio's Elvis Station. As they departed Graceland, they happened to hear a Portland Oregon caller on the air describing his fondness for RCK. If you are the person who called into the station, they really appreciated your kind remarks.
Last night, about twenty of use gathered at the Rum Boogie. For many of us, it was our first real taste of Southern cooking with its Sweet Tea, Fried Pickles, Fried Green Tomatoes, Fried Catfish and big slabs of ribs. We then strolled down Beale St., trying to imagine what it will be like once the 125 acts of the IBC start pouring in.
The Semi-Finals for the International Blues Challenge start tonight with some venues opening as early as 5 pm, while other venues will start at 6:30 p.m. Rose City Kings will play at the venerable BB King's (146 Beale St.) tonight along side 8 other acts. The other acts are: Roger Girke Band, Fabulous Hightops, Teeny Tucker Band, Brian Meakin Band, Simon Carter, Hooddo Band, Bruiser and the Virtues, and Hep Cat Boo Daddies. Tonight, they will hit the stage at a 11:10 p.m. There will be one act following their performance, Hep Cat Boo Daddies. Tommorrow night, they will be up 3rd at 7:50 p.m. at the same venue.
RCK will play the BB King's tonight (Thursday) and Friday for 30 minutes each night. The assigned venue and the order of the acts for the night are determined randomly. The scoring is based on a weighted score by judge that is compiled into an aggregate score. The act with the highest aggregate score for each venue will proceed to the finals. The winner of the finals will be the act with the highest aggregate score. For more information on the International Blues Challenge schedule, please see http://www.blues.org/ibc/schedule.php4
As RCK registered this afternoon, we could feel the energy and excitement.
We are anticipating the arrival of the rest of the Klickitat crew and other RCK Honorary Members this afternoon. We are also eagerly waiting for RCK to hit the stage.
We'll try to keep you posted on as much news and information (incliuding photos) concerning RCK's Journey to Memphis and their progress through the International Blues Challenge as we can. So, feel free to check back to this site frequently. Also, Rusty Faust, host and producer of The Lazy River Lounge, has a travelog of his adventures along with some photos of us from yesterday at http://www.lazyr.net.
Stay Blue,
